Saturday 5pm update

I wish I had better news for today, but not much has happened. Gabriella got morphine for pain at 830am and we have lost the entire day to morphine side effects, which I regret. She is angry and uncomfortable, understandably. She still has no speech and no right arm movement.

We assisted her to the bedside commode once today. I was able to give her a sponge bath and the nurse change her bed sheets. Her right leg strength is a bit better, so I'm praying that's a beginning.

There are so many conflicts as to when to do what tests or start what therapies. Tonight, with her aspirin in her NG tube, she will start feedings in small amounts. I'm hoping it gives her energy and stamina. They are contemplating when to do another MRI and see any changes in the clot. Ill post when they decide.

One miraculous thing I want to mention is speech. The location of her clot is directly on her speech area of the brain. Until puberty, children have the ability to relocate and reassign where the brains speech ability is located. Fortunately, she has the possibility of her speech returning because of how the brain performs this amazing change.

I cannot even begin to express how badly I want to hear her voice again.

(((HUGS))) Kristi.

One thing you must hold onto is the amazing ability of the brain to recover, especially in a child this young. We know so very little of how it works, and miracles like that do happen. She is young enough that her brain can re-learn and re-program itself. I am expecting a miracle for your babygirl... (((HUGS)))

Oh, Kristi. Thank you so much for the update.

That must be so encouraging to see a little leg strength on her right side. And that is AMAZING about the speech area in the brain!!

Ever praying . . .

It is truly amazing how the human brain can work and find new ways to do things. Our little girl has brain damage from her brain bleeds when she was born premature. We have an MRI in late october to determine where her damage is, but we know there is some. Bree's is more than likely in her coordination area of the brain, but she is coming along little by little. Speech therapy will help your Gabriella very much when the time comes for it. If you need a referral for a therapist...I will get the name of Bree's (all I know is her first name! (Stacy)) and she is through the state program. I know it is a bit early, but maybe you could teach Gabriella some basic sign language that communicate with you. I know some sign language and it is a different way of communicating, not as wonderful as hearing her voice I am sure, but seeing and knowing her wants, needs and thoughts might help a little. (Here's a website to 100 basic signs: http://www.lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-layout/concepts.htm)((HUG)) We are thinking of your family, and sending healing thoughts and vibes to Gabriella.

Continued hugs and prayers Kristi. Wonderful news about how the brain can relocate the speech area! I am glad that her right side is a little stronger. This must be so frustrating for her, too. :( You're always on my mind.
