Pediatric transplants in the valley, FINALLY?!?!?

I LOVE Twitter. Daily I do a search for the term 'heart transplant' to find other moms or interesting articles. I have found some great follows through this avenue!

But nothing compares to what I found tonight.

@phxnews New Hospital for Pediatric Transplants: In the past, infants that needed a heart transplant would have to travel t... http://bit.ly/9cFGkH

@stevekrafftfox New children's heart transplant program at St. Joseph's hospital is first one of its kind in the Valley of the Sun

I watched this article: FOX 10 NEWS

And I researched Dr. John Nigro who graduated Med School from University of Illinois, specialized in pediatrc cardiothorasic surgery at Childnres Hospital of Los Angeles and did further training at Stanford University in NorCal.

And I read the press release, released yesterday.

I have a lot of work to do on Monday....... :)

I talked to the cardiac team in Phoenix about this a while ago and they said NO WAY for Owen. Most of the cardio surgeons in Phoenix are qualified to do transplants (and have done them at other hospitals), but the skill is only a small part of it. The part you have to question and weigh is the transplant team. A transplant is about picking the right heart, getting it in time, rejection, biopsies, all the medications, management of the meds, ect. You have to make sure they have a solid team in place!!

Gabriella is pretty cut and dry. No previous surgeries and no antibody issues, so she may be the perfect candidate!! I hope it works out for you!!

Ask LOTS of questions.

Luckily, I know what a transplant is about... we have been through the whole pre-transplant process... nearly twice now with Gabriella's setback. But I'm not letting this option pass me by without some opinions and answers from the docs!

I am so excited for you!! I can't help but think that there was a reason that Gabriella wasn't listed until NOW, maybe this is it!! I really think this would be perfect for her and your family!! I am crossing my fingers and let me know how Monday goes! Dr Prophal is the peds cardiologist over transplant at St Joes and I have heard AMAZING things about him.. he was even out supporting Ethan's Run!

I'm rally praying for you guys that this works out. How cool would it be if Gabriella was the first transplant in Phoenix??

I totally wish Owen was right for it. It would make SO many things simpler. Sigh. :)
