Sparkly heart update #11

Gabriella is extubated!

And smiling! She's only been back 9hours!!

We woke up and got ready. As we were walking into the hospital, the nurse called to tell me they had just extubated her and she was crying!

She is on 11 meds right now and having a hive reaction to the IVIG so they added more benadryl. She's asking "I want hot tea, my heart hurts"... Sweet girl! She has drank and eaten ice chips and even smiled as you can see in her picture. She's been talking to me and even had a dream PJ stole her ice chips.

She's a fighter. Some people's heroes are over 6ft tall, wearing logos and costumes and use super powers. Mine is 45.75in tall and curly haired with a sparkly heart.

I love her so much. I can't even fathom how much more God could love her than I do, but he does.

More updates as the day goes on. No cell phones so I'll post when I sneak out.

I just learned of Gabriella's story last night via Kristine McCormick (Cora's Story). As a CHD warrior and stroke survivor myself, I know a little bit of what y'all are going through. Your sweet princess is in my prayers; as are you, your husband, and the medical team assigned to take care of Gabriella.
Please let me know if there is anything your family needs.
Heart & Stroke hugs to you and sweet Gabriella!!

Kristi, it has been a long time since I have seen or even talked to you but this morning I found myself totally amazed by what your little princess and your family have been through. I spent the morning going through your past blogs and found myself on several occasions in tears as I read about your daughter and how strong she is. I work as an RN on an adult neuro floor and see every day the struggles patients have post stroke. It never once really crossed my mind that little kiddos would have to fight the same battles that bring my adult patients to the brink of loosing it. And the stroke was only part of what your daughter is fighting. You are such an inspiration and I wanted to let you know that you are a wonderful mother and someday 20 years from now Gabriella is going to look back on this whole ordeal and YOU will be her hero! I am soo happy to have been introduced to your daughters story today on such as special day for her and you. Instead of being a story with an uncertian path, you guys have a new lease on life with your daughter. While not through the thick of it yet, this is a huge step in the right direction. I wish you the best and look foward to seeing how Gabriella and her sparkly new heart grow strong. God bless you all!

What wonderful news to hear that Gabriella has received her new heart and is doing well enough to be extubated.

Praying that each day gets easier and her recovery is a smooth one!

Praying for the donor family who chose during their time of loss to give such a precious gift.

You have one little fighter there. I can't believe she was extubated so soon. I hope she continues to do well.

BTW I have been "stalking" you guys for some time. I don't think I have ever commented before, but I keep you guys and many other heart kidos in my thoughts and prayers. I can't imagine what you guys go through from a day to day basis.
